Does anyone know of an alternative spring break for Haiti?
I’d like to somehow go to Haiti for my school spring break and help out for a week. Does anyone know of an organization I could go through?
You have a good heart, but going to Haiti is a bad idea right now, and may not get better before spring break.
Unfortunately, without the right kind of training and preparation, those who are managing to get to Haiti are winding up in danger themselves.
Foreign (including U.S.) health insurance is not valid in Haiti, and there is no way to get around. There is no food, water, sanitation, or electricity for anyone. Volunteers who are injured, for example by breaking a limb, have have no painkillers, no doctor, no treatment, and no way to get home.
